Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
The online portion of the AEMT Online Hybrid course is completely self-paced. Every person completes it at a different pace depending on your study habits, scope of knowledge and motivation to complete it. This training program is approximately 241.5 hours of education including the skills labs/testing and clinical rotation. The didactic portion is approximately 40 chapters, each of which has a mandatory quiz and chapter test. There are interactive video lectures that are a mandatory component of each chapter of the course to be completed, as well as 10 virtual simulations that must be completed at any point in the course as well. Additionally, there is a midterm and final that account for a large portion of your overall grade. You must maintain an 80% average upon completion to graduate from the online portion and pass the midterm and final exam with an 75% or higher. Our AEMT course qualifies you to take the National Registry AEMT written exam once completed. There are 7 days of skills done at our facility once you are 100% complete with the online portion of the course. Skills week consists of 2 days of classroom hands on skills practice, 1 day of psychomotor skills testing with the NREMT and 4 days of clinical rotations.

Prerequisites Required:
- Basic Life Saver / CPR Certification
- NREMT or State EMT Certification
This must be paid in full in order to gain access to your course. The tuition does not cover any of your expenses to travel here for the skills labs.
Prerequisites
- High School Diploma or GED completion certificate
- Copy of Driver’s License or form of government or state issued identification (must be at least 17 years of age to enroll; cannot apply for licenses with DSHS until 18 years of age)
- A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification (Basic Life Support [BLS] for Provider certification provided by American Heart Association or American Red Cross only).
- Health insurance card with student name or letter of eligibility from insurance carrier
- A criminal background check covering the last seven years
- Proof of the following immunizations:
- Measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella: two vaccinations or positive titer
- Varicella (chicken pox): two vaccinations or positive titer
- Hepatitis B: three vaccinations or positive titer (series in process with two vaccinations complete will be accepted)
- Tuberculosis (TB): one of the following within the last six months:
- 1 step TB skin test
- TB Gold blood test
- T-spot blood test
- Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) blood test
- Negative chest x-ray with physician documentation stating you are TB negative
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap): vaccination within the last ten years
- Flu: vaccination during the current flu season
- Meningitis: proof within the past five years if under the age of thirty
Note: COVID immunizations are NOT required for entry into this course. However, they may be required for internship affiliation sites.
IMPORTANT: A drug screen will be required within 30 days of starting your clinical rotations.
AEMT Full Education Program Pathway
If you have just completed or are currently enrolled in a full AEMT education program, and you are applying for AEMT certification, you must meet the following requirements:
- Current National Registry certification or state license at the EMT level, or higher
- Successful completion of a state-approved Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course or completion of a higher level state-approved EMS course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.
- Candidates must have completed the course within the past two years and the course Program Director must verify successful course completion on the National Registry website.
- Have a current CPR-BLS for "Healthcare Provider" or equivalent credential.
- Successful completion of the National Registry AEMT cognitive (knowledge) examination and psychomotor (skills) examination.
- Passed portions of the cognitive and psychomotor exam remain valid for 24 months provided all other eligibility requirements are met.
Application Process
Follow these easy steps to apply for a National Registry exam:
- Create your account/log in to your profile.
- Create an application - Select the AEMT level. Verify your personal information and make any necessary changes. Then, follow the prompts through the application process.
- Pay the application fee. The application fee is non-transferable and non-refundable. This fee is charged for each attempt of the cognitive examination.
- Monitor the progress of your application from your “Certification Application Status” in case additional actions are needed. Once the National Registry approves your application and your status is “Ready to Test,” you can view your ATT letter and contact Pearson Vue to schedule your exam.
